About ChalkLetters

I’m a thirtysomething reader, writer and professional editor. Growing up, I read a lot of Enid Blyton, Ann M Martin, C S Lewis and L M Montgomery. As a teenager, my mum introduced me to fantasy – through David Eddings – and crime fiction – through Agatha Christie. As an adult, I still read a lot of both genres, but I’m using this blog to stretch my tastes out into new areas and authors.

I get a lot of my books from Captain Awkward book swaps, as generous gifts from friends or because I was lucky enough to work in a building with a lot of book-reviewers. There are so many books on my TBR shelf that I rarely need to buy anything new!

My Literary Timelines (1700-1900, 1900-1987, 1987-) – I plotted out the settings, publication dates and author’s active periods of all the books I’ve read for this blog, to give me a better idea of how they all fit together!

Homelover’s Tales (Tumblr) – A collection of quotations describing fictional homes.

Chalkletters @ Bookshop.org – My online ‘book shop’ where I can enjoy myself curating lists of books. Currently, this features Lighthouse Books and Homelover’s Tales.
